"Have you ever seen the Fonti del Clitunno? If not yet, and I think not, otherwise you would have told me about them, go and see them. I have only just seen them and I regret that I did so too late,' so wrote Pliny the Younger to a friend, and his advice is still valid today.
The Fonti del Clitunno Park is a natural oasis covering over 10,000 square metres at Campello sul Clitunno near Spoleto, in the province of Perugia. This park, which includes the springs of the river Clitunno and is characterised by the presence of a charming pond inhabited by swans and ducks, is surrounded by numerous rare plant species.

It is a unique and evocative place because of the wonderful nature that surrounds its pond. This small stretch of water with a diameter of about 400 metres is, in fact, surrounded by particular plant species such as the aquatic nasturtium or Nasturtium officinale, the aquatic horsetail or Hippuris vulgaris, the greater shrimp or Callitriche stagnalis and the ladleweed or Alisma plantago-aquatica, an elegant aquatic plant whose stem can reach more than a metre in height.
In the Fonti del Clitunno park, it is also possible to admire several weeping willows and lush cypress poplars.
Families of swans, ducks and squirrels also live in this picturesque natural area, creating an enchanted and timeless atmosphere.
An excursion to this park is recommended for its historical, naturalistic and literary interest and, thanks to the presence of easy, level paths, it is recommended both for families with children and for people with slight motor disabilities.
