Cascia has a thousand-year history whose signs, strongly impressed in its territory, are also richly illustrated by archaeological finds, epigraphic testimonies, archival documents, monuments and objects of historical and artistic value.

The origin is certainly to be traced back to a few centuries before the foundation of Rome, in the period in which this territory was inhabited by Italic populations dedicated mostly to sheep farming and that, following ancient transhumance routes, came into contact and partly contributed to the formation of the nascent Roman civilization. The most important and imposing testimony of this archaic period is the splendid temple of Villa S. Silvestro, while many other archaeological finds are preserved in the Museum of Palazzo Santi, in Cascia, and in other Italian and foreign museums.

In speaking of Cascia one cannot fail to mention Saint Rita; the nun, beatified in 1900, lived between 1381 and 1457. Today, the Saint, known as a dispenser of graces, is venerated all over the world and many people go every year on pilgrimage during the celebrations Ritiane to the Shrine consecrated to her.
